Craig Halgreen is the Director for Sustainability and Public Affairs at Borealis and is responsible for advancing the company’s sustainability and public affairs agenda, with particular focus on addressing social and environmental challenges and progressing the circular economy for plastics.
Halgreen returned to Borealis’ head office in Vienna in May 2018, coming from the company’s Middle East joint-venture, Borouge, where he was the Director for Corporate Sustainability; in this role he played a key part in enhancing sustainability and driving forward plastics advocacy, as well as contributing to the development of a plastics strategy with the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment in the UAE. He also took an active role in the advocacy of plastics in the region on behalf of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association.
When Halgreen initially joined Borouge, in Abu Dhabi in 2009, he was the Vice President for Global Communications and was instrumental in building the Borouge brand regionally and internationally, highlighting the sustainable contribution of the plastics industry to society.
Prior to moving to the UAE, Craig Halgreen was the Communications Director at Borealis in Austria and, previously, worked with the international pulp and papermaker Sappi for over 23 years where he held various marketing, branding and communications management positions in Belgium, the United Kingdom and South Africa.
Qualified in marketing management, Halgreen is a Belgian and South African citizen.
